‘Elementary’ season 3, episode 12 reaction: Show boss on Kitty Winter decision
It’s ironic how television works sometimes. For the first four or five episodes of “Elementary” this season, we wanted nothing more than to see Kitty Winter gone, and for the show to return somewhat to its core of Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson solving crimes together. However, the character grew on us, and by the time that we were watching last night, we did not want to see her go anywhere.
With this in mind, should you really be that surprised to learn that Kitty now seems to be gone? After confronting, but not killing, her former tormentor, the character went on the run and departed New York City Thursday. This means that the show is closer to being back where it was during the first two seasons. We do think that this character will surface again at some point, mostly because there has already been so much time invested into her. You would want to see her again … right?
In a statement after the episode per TVLine, show executive producer Rob Doherty had the following to say about Kitty’s exit:
“We’re going to miss Kitty as much as Sherlock and Joan will … But with her departure, it’s time to turn the page to the next chapter for Sherlock and Joan.”
Kitty joins a roster of other characters who could also potentially return at some point. We feel like Mycroft for certain will come back, and we know there’s an interest in more Irene Adler / Moriarty. The issue there is mostly with Natalie Dormer’s schedule.

I think this helped define her character well, only to have her taken from us. I think she’ll resurface and perhaps “the fans” will be more accepting.
