ABC’s ‘Resurrection’ season 3: Is there hope still for renewal?

Resurrection -Tonight for “Resurrection” fans, the end of the road is here … for now. We’re going to see the final episode of season 2, and hopefully, a chance to see whether or not Rachael gives birth, and just what the future is going to hold following this. Is this child really the Antichrist, and are we going to learn more about what happens to the Returned? All interesting questions.

Given that ABC has promoted this show to be the season and not series finale, we have to therefore think that there is at least some indecision on their part as to whether or not the show will be back for new episodes next year. Right now, though, we would label it unlikely. The ratings have dropped off dramatically already, and there is therefore no real reason to think that the same audience watching now would be watching a year from now.

Also, there is a reason for the drop here that is no so much competition (remember that it originally drew huge ratings airing against “The Walking Dead”). It is largely just because of the series’ variety of creative struggles, in particular at the midway point of the season.

So for the time being, we’d say that the renewal odds for the show are low, but there’s an outside shot that someone picks it up and maybe gives it a small third season, if there is confidence in what the writers / producers have coming. If nothing else, at least A&E is premiering “The Returned” later this year, which is much more of an adaptation of the French show.
