‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Blake Shelton’s reaction to hosting invite

SNL -Tonight, we have an opportunity to watch what is certainly one of the more interesting editions of “Saturday Night Live” we’ve seen over the years. Blake Shelton is obviously a big character, and he is someone we’ve personally wanted to see host the show for a while now.

Does that mean he will actually be good? Not necessarily. What Blake brings is charm, humor, charisma, and an ability to make fun of himself. Of course, his performances will also be pretty good, but you probably expected that if you are a longtime fan in the first place.

What we worry about here is simply experience. He’s not an actor, and has even fewer acting credits to his name than his fellow coach on “The Voice” Adam Levine. There are also expectations of what a country star should look and act like per society, and we worry that they may dictate just how far he is willing to go. Personally, we hope that we see him do something that is as off-brand and ridiculous as possible.

Blake made one thing rather clear recently to CMT, and that is that he never imagined that he would be hosting the show. As a matter of fact, he claims that his first reaction to getting the invitation was “what the f,” which seems about right.

If this show doesn’t end up being great, the good thing for Blake is that nobody will hold it against him, since he already has music and “The Voice” that he can go back to. Therefore, there’s no real pressure on him tonight.
