‘Parenthood’ season 6, episode 12 review: Zeek’s decision and the aftermath

Well, do you have the tissues out? “Parenthood” does that to you sometimes, and throughout the new episode airing on NBC tonight, we got the sense that the show is really preparing for its grand goodbye. Whether it be due to new arrivals, the fear of departures, or planning for the future, there was a prevailing sense of forward movement and nostalgia. For some reason, the background music was even hitting us in this episode.

The biggest news to hit in the episode was probably the saddest, and that was Zeek’s decision to try and live his life, regardless of how little time he has left. His choice influenced the decision of many others, including Sarah, who decided that she did not want to wait on marrying Hank. She wanted to ensure that her father was there for it. Amber giving birth was another part of the story that signified that big changes are ahead.

This episode was a very nice way to set up the big finale for the show. It contained professional drama (Adam still has decisions to be made there), personal drama, but also plenty of hope as the younger kids are starting to realize that they have a limitless future. This is a show about family, but it’s also one about hope. As we near the end, we still have no reason to be anything other than hopeful that the Braverman family will find a way to figure things out. Grade: A-.

Just for those who are curious, we have a fun video at the bottom of this article featuring some of the cast members reflecting on the series.
