‘Supergirl’ spoilers: ‘Glee’ alum Melissa Benoist cast as Kara Zor-El

We now know officially who is going to be flying high as Supergirl on the upcoming CBS adaptation, and it is someone we know better as … Marley from “Glee”?

It has been confirmed that Melissa Benoist, who played one of the new members of McKinley High on seasons 4 and 5 of the Fox musical-comedy, has been cast to play the leading lady Kara Zor-El in the upcoming “Supergirl” adaptation for CBS. Obviously she will dye her hair blonde for the role, and probably begin training for what is a crazy-exciting role. There were a number of actors who auditioned for the leading role, and one of the other competitors was reportedly “The Originals” star Claire Holt.

So is she a good choice? She’s not someone who was on our radar for the part, but we feel like ultimately, this could end up working out well. We know that Marley was not a particularly well-received character on “Glee” during her time there, but we don’t really think that was Melissa’s fault. Instead, she was basically put in a position where she was having to take time away from characters we already knew, and her story was forced upon you. She’s also been in other things such as the new movie “Whiplash” and also “Homeland,” so there are some better showcases out there for what she can really do.

The biggest surprise to us is still that this show is airing on CBS. There is honestly a part of us that not-so-secretly wishes that this will shift to The CW, mostly because they know what they are doing when it comes to this sort of genre.

Ironically, this is the second former “Glee” guest star cast to be a superhero; Grant Gustin is already the star of “The Flash.” Does this mean that we’re going to be seeing Chord Overstreet soon as Marian Manhunter?
