Katharine McPhee, Train’s Pat Monahan sing National Anthems for NFC, AFC Championship Games

Scorpion -While there are clearly some major sporting events happening today in terms of football, we know that there are some out there these days who like to over-analyze and discuss the National Anthem performances just as much as anything else.

Given that these are NFL Championship Games, one thing that can definitely be counted on is networks bringing out some very familiar faces to perform. In the case of the earlier game between the Seattle Seahawks and the Green Bay Packers, you had a performance from none other than “Scorpion” star Katharine McPhee. Why use a CBS actress on Fox? To think about it politically, McPhee was a former “American Idol” star, so it still makes a little bit of sense.

As for the later game on CBS, the Anthem was performed by none other than Pat Monahan of the band Train. The group has their fans, but we feel like McPhee clearly bested him in the vocals department. With that being said, this was far from the worst Anthem ever performed at a game featuring the New England Patriots in Foxboro. Remember when Steven Tyler performed there? That was horrendous beyond words, and we don’t even know why he was hired (and we say this being Aerosmith fans).

Ultimately, these two performances we feel will be reasonably well-remembered after the fact. There’s always going to be nasty people on the internet who dislike these performances (trolls will be trolls after all), but we’ve heard people do far worse when it comes to bungling the lyrics, or having their voice break. Remember also just how cold it was during these performances!
