‘Agents of SHIELD’ season 2 spoilers: Clark Gregg on Coulson’s future, dealing with death

Agents of SHIELD -The hard thing that comes with writing about “Agents of SHIELD” right now is mostly dealing with reality … specifically in the form of knowing that it is a long, long time until March 3, when the series returns to ABC with new episodes. This wait has been made even more difficult thanks to the absolutely thrilling cliffhanger we have with the Inhumans’ arrival in this world, and with Skye having another name in Daisy Johnson.

So what all will be on Director Coulson’s plate? As you would figure, there is enough for him to be at the center of some very interesting stories. He will have a chance to really uncover what is next when it comes to the writings, but then have to deal with the human ramifications of what came with the big reveal in the first half of the season. These are things that Clark Gregg himself comments on in a new interview with Comic Book Resources:

“I think the first thing we’re going to deal with when we come back is he led everyone to this place with the writings. He found this submerged, several-thousand-year-old alien city. It turned out to be like an incubating factory that turned his own most beloved protégée — his surrogate daughter — into something else and got one of his team members killed. That’s not going to be easy on his new team, which has some people who he knows and trusts and some people who are much newer to him.”

Gregg also comments in this interview on how this season has been a little bit easier on the show’s writing staff, mostly because they have not been placed into a “treading water” position as they were having to time things out with “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” coming into theaters. With “The Avengers: Age of Ultron” not on the air until summer, things are a little easier here.
