‘Masters of Sex’ season 3 spoilers: Expect a time jump, changes for Bill and Virginia
There have not exactly been a whole lot of opportunities as of late to discuss “Masters of Sex,” so isn’t now a good time to change that?
One of the reasons why there has been so little information is strictly because filming was not underway yet, but with that changing early this year, it is an opportunity to dish a little bit more about how Bill and Virginia’s lives are changing … and they definitely are. Speaking to TVLine, Showtime head David Nevins confirms that one of the big things that will be different in season 3, which is set a good stretch of time past the end of season 2, is going to be seeing how Bill (Michael Sheen) and Virginia (Lizzy Caplan) start to handle the fact that there are people out there who are actually starting to recognize their research as valuable:
“Last season was kind of a down period for them … This season will be [about] fame and celebrity, and the effect of what they’ve done has started to have on the world.”
The timing for this shift does seem to be about right, especially when you remember here that we have already seen plenty of the dark ages for these characters. How much value is there really in continuing to watch them suffer? We would argue that there really is not much, given that you know they will start to be taken seriously eventually. It is only fitting that this time should be soon.
There is no firm premiere date yet for season 3, but given when Showtime debuted the second season, we’d say early summer is a pretty safe bet. The show has to be off the air in time for “Homeland” and “The Affair” to come roaring back.
