‘American Idol XIV’ video: Will Ellen Petersen bring bluegrass to the show?

Ellen -We’ll start here with a very simple message: We love bluegrass music. It’s a little bit of a lost art today, and we feel especially like too many people out there incorrectly assume that this and country music are the same exact thing. They’re not.

Hopefully, Ellen Petersen will bring some of the bluegrass magic back when she auditions for “American Idol” this week. The video below is hardly the most revealing in the world, mostly because we don’t actually get to hear her perform. However, we do at least get enough of a sense that she is going to be a pretty good contender for a golden ticket. She performs in a bluegrass band already, so there is some experience there performing on the stage. Also, she plays the banjo, and is knowledgeable of the series’ past as a longtime Carrie Underwood fan.

If she auditions in New York, she will have to impress three people who are not really known for being anything close to bluegrass. Keith Urban was away dealing to a personal matter, and Adam Lambert stepped in to be the guest judge. Luckily, he along with Jennifer Lopez and Harry Connick Jr. have been around long enough to really know what talent is, and when someone is pretending or not really bringing out the best in themselves.

For someone like Ellen, her challenge will come standing out in Hollywood Week, and then competing against a wide array of other singers for a spot in the top 24. We’ve already heard the voices of all of these singers courtesy of that introduction last week, but we still haven’t seen any faces.
