‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Russell T. Davies shoots down returning for modern series anniversary

Doctor Who -Are we going to see something further from Russell T. Davis on “Doctor Who” moving forward? There at least seemed to be some interest in getting him back so that the show could properly celebrate ten years on BBC One with the revived series.

However, just because there is interest from one side doesn’t mean that the gig as a whole is going to happen. As Davies told the Radio Times recently in a new interview, he declined an invitation to come back, mostly because it was slightly confusing for there to be so many anniversaries of one show given the recent 50th anniversary event:

I just said no, to be honest. A program can’t have its 50th [anniversary] and then its 10th. I think that’s just confusing. It’s marvellous and glorious; let it carry on.”

There is a part of us that is somewhat-bummed by this decision, and largely because Davies and Peter Capaldi would have excellent chemistry on the screen (or at least in our mind they would). Ultimately, though, we do understand his position. There needs to be a time when you can just move forward as a series, and embrace your future just as much as your past. Russell seems to understand that, even if the show sometimes does rely a little much on nostalgia.

Expect to see some other familiar faces and locales on the upcoming ninth season, which will premiere on the BBC at some point this fall. Most likely, we’ll have some further updates on it very soon. Stay tuned for more scoop.
