‘Criminal Minds’ season 10 spoilers: Details on Ben Savage’s Gideon flashback

It was quite a long time ago that Gideon was an important character on “Criminal Minds.” Mandy Patinkin was one of the original key players on the show, but left early on after feeling like this sort of series wasn’t quite for him. That in some ways put the show in a tricky position, given that he was such a big part of the show’s mythology.

Luckily, the upcoming January 28 episode of the show entitled “Nelson’s Sparrow” has come up with a pretty unique way of getting around the Gideon problem, at least in that they are telling more of the origin story of the BAU, and bringing in “Girl Meets World” star Ben Savage to play the young version of the character. Take a look at the official synopsis below, which also gives you a hint as to which series star co-wrote the episode alongside showrunner Erica Messer:

“The BAU revisits its origins when they look at one of Rossi and Gideon’s old cases to track a killer that got away, on CRIMINAL MINDS, Wednesday, Jan. 28 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Series star Kirsten Vangsness co-wrote the episode with Erica Messer, one of the series’ executive producers. Ben Savage (“Girl Meets World,” “Boy Meets World”) guest stars as young Gideon, and Arye Gross (“Castle,” “Ellen”) guest stars as Donnie Mallick.”

This episode to us sounds like a good bit of fun, and will also be fairly important to the overall history of the series to go along with it. What more could you really want to see as you get closer to the February sweeps?
