‘American Idol XIV’ video: Harry Connick Jr. tells Jimmy Fallon about ‘tough judge’ mentality

Judges -Tonight, the wait for more “American Idol” is finally at an end, and it appears that even if the talent tonight is somewhat subpar, there may still be a few good things worth looking forward to when it comes to Harry Connick Jr. and the judges.

There are many reasons why we like Harry as a judge on the show, but we feel like the biggest one is that he is genuinely invested in trying to help the contestants, though he may at times come across as a little bit harsh in the process. This is something that he comments on in the new video below from “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” where he also claims with a laugh that he is often booed “at Starbucks” for some of the things he says in regards to the contestants.

As for whether or not any of the contestants end up listening to Harry, that is entirely up to them. If nothing else, though, we at least know that they are going to be getting some sort of help in the early going.

The only thing that we really hope for from the audition stage of the show, other than that we hope there is more talent, is that the Fox editors treat the judges more as equals. This means no more awkward shots of Jennifer Lopez during performances, and no more hanging on almost every word she says … especially if that word is “goosies.”
