While there may not be much in the way of British reality television airing this weekend, the BBC does not plan on making you wait for very long at all! There is a new season of “The Voice UK” starting in precisely one week, and the new launch trailer below contains some of your first real insight into what you can expect.
So how would we describe this? Using just one word, we’d say that this preview looks fun. When we first heard a dancing / singing crow, we almost thought that this was an acid dream from Bran Stark of “Game of Thrones.” Somehow, though, we actually like this more and more every time we watch it. Maybe it is just because it’s so silly, and shows us that this series does not take itself entirely seriously. That’s a good thing, given that they’ve had three seasons and zero artists who have become superstars so far. Not exactly the best track record; even the American version of “The Voice” has done something a little bit better.
The biggest risk for the BBC with the show this year is having to replace Kylie Minogue with Rita Ora. While Ora does give the panel even more of a British flavor, Kylie is an entertainment icon who has been around the business for a long time. We’re not sure if older viewers will be that familiar with Ora’s music. In America, the biggest thing she may be known for right now is that song with Iggy Azalea.
Regardless of if there are any big stars, you can at least feel good about there being some quality entertainment. This show is typically good about bringing some good stuff in their Blind Auditions.
