‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Will Ian Ziering take a chainsaw to the competition?

Ian Ziering -Can you believe that we are already at the conclusion of our “Celebrity Apprentice” spotlights? It’s somewhat crazy in a way, given how it only felt like days ago when we were first ridiculing this show and its array of people trying to impress a man few want to impress these days in Donald Trump.

We conclude here with a man whose presence this season continues to surprise us in so many ways: Ian Ziering. What would he do on the show? He’s got the “Sharknado” franchise now, and you may mock it, but remember that the free hand of the market has rallied behind it! Also, Ian did do “Dancing with the Stars” years ago, and there’s a pattern of people moving from one show to the other. He does bring some potential to the table; personally, we think his greatest skill may be fooling us to think that the’s younger than he actually is. (Just a reminder: Ian is 50 years old.)

Claim to fame – Appearing in almost 300 episodes of “Beverly Hills, 90210” as Steve Sanders. Since that time, he’s done voice-over work as Harry Osborn, and he’s started in a not-so-little phenomenon known as “Sharknado” for Syfy.

Strengths – He may be a little more well-known now than he was a few years ago, and we feel like his celebrity contacts probably put him in the middle of the pack this season. Creatively, we like to think that there is something in the tank here.

Weaknesses – The problem Ian runs into is basically that he is middle-of-the-road in almost every category. We cannot think of anything that he’s going to excel at, just as we cannot think of anything that he will bomb at. For a guy who was part of such an insane movie, we don’t get the sense that he is going to pop as a part of this show.

Charity EB Medical Research Foundation. Their website is worth a read, since their cause is a disease that not every reader out there may be familiar with.

Prediction – We like Ian, and have only just started to get around to pronouncing his name correctly. Unfortunately for him, this feels like a Dee Snider contestant if there ever was one. He won’t be first off, but he could go anywhere between here and the top six, and never make a big splash in the process.
