There are many a show that Neil Patrick Harris has hosted over the years, but the Academy Awards is one that is still lingering out there, waiting for him to jump on board.
Luckily, he is getting an opportunity to do just that with next year’s grand ceremony, which is going to be airing on ABC come February 22. The video below focuses on Christmas, and also how one of the biggest gifts you could really offer up right now is encouraging someone to watch the show!
What we do wonder about, though, is if there is going to be the sort of fun television drama and competition you really hope for. Save for a few assorted films here and there like “Birdman” or “The Imitation Game,” we don’t really see this as a landmark year in movies. The biggest controversy over the holidays has been about a poorly-reviewed movie in “The Interview,” and the holidays have been quiet with many blockbusters other than an entry in “The Hobbit” and “The Hunger Games” franchises.
With Neil, the awards at least make certainly that they have someone at the center of the proceedings who knows what they are doing, and that is far more important than we can ever stress here. While we didn’t care for his work the last time he hosted the Emmys, every other time he has hosted a big awards show, we find ourselves walking away feeling at least reasonably impressed. Hopefully, that happens again here.
