‘Doctor Who’ season 9 spoilers: Will Jenna Coleman return for ‘The Magician’s Apprentice’?

Doctor Who -Tonight, the “Doctor Who” Christmas Special aired on the BBC, and in the process, we hoped to get an answer to a question that has long dominated media headlines: Are we going to see Jenna Coleman return as the Clara Oswald character?

Originally, the news was that she was going to be leaving the show, and following that, the news changed, and it was reported by many that she had decided to stay at the last minute.

Luckily, the show confirmed at the end of the episode that Coleman will be back for “The Magician’s Apprentice” when it airs on the BBC next fall. As for how long she stays beyond that, we have to wait and see. We could see her departing midway through season 9, but it feels like overall, her time on the show is probably limited. We really like Coleman in the role, but part of this show is that it is almost always a revolving door. People change, but the show continues to have that same magic about it.

We already wrote that season 9 will commence filming early next year, and should utilize the same sort of format that we saw for season 8 in terms of structure, format, and air dates. Unfortunately, we are so early in the process that there is not a whole lot else to say.

For now, we wish a Merry Christmas to all of you who celebrate, and of course, we’ll be back with so much more discussion throughout the weeks ahead.
