DVR ratings: ABC’s ‘Revenge’ season 4, ‘Constantine’ improve renewal chances

Revenge -The latest DVR ratings are in for the week of December 1, and like Emily Thorne in the attached picture, there are reasons for many to smile right now.

Specifically, “Revenge” fans should have a little more hope about a possible renewal. Per TVbythenumbers, the show improved from a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic for its December 7 episode all the way up to a 2.1. This is a 75% increase, and one of the ten best for this week.

The funny thing here is that we feel like there is a pretty heavy contingent of people online who are 100% convinced that “Revenge” is going to be canceled. We don’t feel like that is necessarily the case. While it is not a ratings beast, ABC has been loyal to it and to the fans. Don’t be too shocked if it gets a 13-episode final-season pickup, which would get the series up to that 100 episode plateau.

Some other interesting notes worth mentioning here are that “Constantine” (0.8) and “The Vampire Diaries” (0.7) each saw their ratings jump 100% to a 1.6 and a 1.4, respectively. Still, the latter will most likely return, whereas “Constantine” is still in danger. Its ratings are still weak given its network in NBC, even if “Hannibal” does not perform a whole lot better the majority of the time.

One other interesting trend here is that the majority of the shows rated above a 2.0 seem to have a much smaller percentage of viewers watching after the fact. “Modern Family” (2.8 live, 5.0 with live+7 data) is the only exception to this rule. No other show in the top 25 in terms of percentage gains has anywhere near so high a rating.

We’ll of course have some further updates on shows on the bubble moving deeper into the season. Also, you can sign up now to get some other TV scoop on everything we cover right away via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: ABC.)
