‘Glee’ season 6 spoilers: Hear Lea Michele’s Rachel cover ‘Frozen’ hit ‘Let It Go’

Rachel -Sometimes, it does not take looking into a crystal ball in order to figure out what “Glee” is going to do with some of their song choices. Take, for example, “Let It Go.” This “Frozen” ballad was performed in the movie by Idina Menzel, who on “Glee” has appeared multiple times as Rachel Berry’s biological mother Shelby Corcoran. Lea Michele has previously sung Menzel numbers before, and considers her an inspiration.

Therefore, is anyone even remotely shocked that Rachel is performing this song on the show? It will be one of many featured in the two-hour premiere airing on Friday, January 9, and if you head over to People, you can listen to it right now.

For those of you looking for a quick review, here is what you need to know: This is basically the same song that was featured in “Frozen” with very few changes. Lea and Idina’s voices are pretty similar, so this may sound to some of you like a pretty straightforward rendition of the song.

Michele has a killer voice and this is a great song, but what we would have probably preferred to see here is either a slightly more varied arrangement that really flips the song on its head, or someone a little more unexpected performing it. This is just a little on-the-nose, and if you think back to some of the earlier seasons of “Glee,” one of the real joys of that was getting a chance to hear a variety of cool reworkings of familiar tunes.

What do you think of the rendition, and do you wish that the show had done something a little less obvious with the song?
