‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ spotlight: Will Shawn Johnson vault to forefront?
Shawn Johnson proved she was a winner long before “The Celebrity Apprentice.” She is an Olympian, a gymnast, a “Dancing with the Stars” winner, and someone who seems to take her status as a role model pretty seriously. Also worth nothing? She’s done all of this, and is only 22. She is the youngest contestant, and is barely old enough to have a toast after a successful task.
Shawn is going to be a fun addition to this season, at least in that we cannot really see her being mean to the other contestants or throwing people under the bus. Still, she has so much enthusiasm that she could be good entertainment regardless.
Claim to fame – Being a part of the 2008 Olympic gymnastics team and a gold medalist. She attempted a comeback for the 2012 London games, but retired after lingering knee problems. She is also a two-time contestant on “Dancing with the Stars,” and won her first stint on the show.
Advantages – For one, energy. She’ll probably be one of the most gung-ho members of the team, and unafraid to try things and take risks. She is recognizable to a certain demographic, and even though she may be a retired gymnast, we could see her using her skills to better sell a presentation or attract a crowd. Thanks to “Dancing with the Stars,” she has at least some celebrity friends.
Disadvantages – She may be a competitor, but there’s a difference between getting a better score, and then being okay with trashing people in a boardroom. Shawn just seems so nice! It’s hard to imagine her really going at another contestant. She could end up being very well-liked by her team, but then not necessarily well-liked by Donald Trump.
Charity – Character Counts in Iowa. This is Shawn’s home state, and the name really says it all: Working to encourage good character.
Prediction – Shawn may be a little too wide-eyed for this competition, but we still have a very good feeling about her. Even if she doesn’t win, there’s an outside chance we see her making it to the final two just for being so in-tune with the present and being so creative and enthusiastic.
