‘The Affair’ season 2 spoilers: What should come next for Showtime drama?

Tonight proved itself to be quite a big hour of Showtime programming, but also a fairly controversial one. We may be the only person on the internet who found the “Homeland” finale to be particularly outstanding, and then, the first season of “The Affair” came to a close with an episode that at least had some more approval (though not necessarily that of everyone).

The big cliffhanger at the end of the finale tonight was Noah’s arrest, and him wrongly thinking that there were no ties between Jake and Jeffries. Alison promises that she is going to help him escape his fate, but that does not appear like it will be an easy thing to do.

We could see the second season picking up almost immediately where this story left off, but the reality here is that it may to be too early to know for sure. The writers room for this series is probably not even going strong yet, and it will not premiere for its second season until some point next year. An easy guess will be that it will air in the same timeslot, but Showtime has proven that they have no problem moving fall shows to summer.

The one thing we are curious to see is if some time off with help others discover the series. It got some great attention at the Golden Globes, but was left out of the SAG Awards. The Emmys over the summer will be a real test, given that the show is probably not going to be fresh in mind during the voting window.

What do you want to see on “The Affair” next season, and do you hope that the show manages to improve its audience moving forward? Share with a comment.
