Best of 2014 results: Did ‘Outlander,’ ‘The Quest,’ ‘Halt and Catch Fire’ win Best New Show?

There were many close battles in our CarterMatt Best of 2014 Awards, but the race for Best New Show may have been the closest one out of everyone. After all, there were only a few percentage points between the winner and the runner-up, and every single nominee received at least 13% of the vote.

Ultimately, this was a strong showing for all! If you a big fan of “Outlander,” “The Quest,” “True Detective,” “Gotham,” or “Halt and Catch Fire,” you have nothing to be ashamed of here at all.

With that being said … there can only be one winner. With just over 30% of the vote, “The Quest” did just enough to become the one true hero of this category. We feel like the reason for its victory here can be attributed to a strong voting campaign, and a loyal following that comes from being an underdog story. We have a feeling that some out there are going to discover this show, and really wish that they had caught it live. It is so much fun, not to mention basically the sort of show we would have pretended to be a part of when we were a kid.

The runner-up in this category was “Outlander,” which was just a few percentage points behind. Clearly, viewers were down for the fantasy-themed television this year. In third place, a few percentage points behind that, was “Halt and Catch Fire” over on AMC.

The real conclusion that you can draw as a whole from this year is mostly this: It was a heck of a great one for TV. There were a ton of great new shows, and chances for us to continue to celebrate what we genuinely feel to be a golden age.
