Brian Williams signs new deal as NBC Nightly News anchor

NBC -Ten years into his tenure as the anchor for NBC Nightly News, it does not look like we are going t be seeing Brian Williams go anywhere in the near future.

In a memo today, it was announced by network news head Deborah Turness that Williams has a deal in place to remain on board the show for many years moving forward. While there is no particular known length for this contract, we at least know that he is going to be around for a while:

“Under Brian’s leadership, Nightly has solidified its position as America’s most watched news broadcast and is off to its best start of the season in nine years … His deep connection with viewers extends beyond the broadcast to his leading of our breaking news events, his primetime specials and the Nightly offerings on digital and social media. In this changing news and media environment, that special trust in Brian is more important than ever, and therefore wherever Brian is, the audience follows.”

The word “trust” is one in here that cannot be underscored enough, since Williams has established a great rapport with his viewers. Not only that, but he is that rare news personality that can also have a little fun from time to time without damaging his reputation. Just look at his gags on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” or his previous hosting gig on “Saturday Night Live.”

We’re happy for Brian. He is successful obviously, but he is one of the foremost leaders in news for a reason. It’ll be interesting to see what the next few years hold.
