‘Gracepoint’ effectively canceled; no season 2 (though you probably assumed that)
It looks like Fox has put the final nail into the coffin now of “Gracepoint.”
As confirmed by TVLine, the Anna Gunn – David Tennant mystery drama is not going to be returning for a second season on Fox. We cannot say that this is particularly surprising news, mostly because it is not. As a matter of fact, anyone who saw the previews recently billing this as a series finale probably assumed that this was the path in which the show would most likely be going.
“Gracepoint” never managed to make much of an imprint in the ratings, despite having some reasonably well-known stars, and also being an adaptation of the popular British hit “Broadchurch.” Unfortunately, it failed to draw the rave reviews of its British counterpart, with most saying that it was inferior version. Also, its finale drew criticism for failing to be that different from the original.
As we have said for weeks, this was not necessarily a “limited series event” as it was billed. In the event that the show was a hit, or at least drew tremendous awards buzz, Fox probably would have considered a story for a second season. After all, remember here that this is a network desperately searching for something at the moment. Their fall schedule is already in tatters; while “Gotham” has succeeded, “Red Band Society,” “Mulaney,” and “Utopia” are all basically canceled or close to it; the former series technically has a chance still of renewal, but it is extremely unlikely given the numbers. Without Gordon Ramsay and the NFL boosting Sunday nights, we’d be very worried for the network’s immediate future.
Hopefully, another show will decide to pick up and utilize Gunn’s talents a little bit better over the coming months.

confirmed *WHERE*?!?! I have seen nothing directly from Fox. Can you point to an official press release? all i’ve seen in the dozen or so articles is “we’re hearing” and “as confirmed by” but noone will actually show us the official word from Fox that this is the case. Dan Futterman and Anya Epstein (the showrunners) both said over the weekend that there was still hope… so if that hope has been dashed, I wish someone would point us to the actual official word.

I keep saying the same thing. Who has confirmed this? Why is Fox declining to comment, as a couple of articles have said?
