Best of 2014 results: Did ‘Hell on Wheels.’ ‘Longmire,’ or ‘Hannibal’ win Underrated Show?

Over the past two weeks, CarterMatt readers from all over the world have come in to vote for our Best of 2014 Awards. We have a variety of different categories that honor the best of what the television medium has presented to us, and there are many categories that are still open for voting.

Before we get to a breakdown of today’s results, thanks to all who have voted so far! Tens of thousands of votes have come in, and it has made some of these races particularly competitive and fun to watch.

Today, we’re here to reveal the winner of Best Underrated Show, which was during the early going one of the most competitive races that we tracked. When we first kicked off the voting, “Hannibal” led for several hours, and eventually was replaced at the top by “Longmire.” Then, “Hannibal” took the lead again.

It was a couple of days after posting the nominations that the tide started to emerge, and a clear winner surfaced: “Hell on Wheels.” It built more and more votes over time, and eventually won with a pretty commanding 51% of the vote. We will attest the victory to aggressive campaigning, and also having a tremendous fourth season that included wonderful performances, beautiful sets, and several emotional moments that probably had you welling up. (The end of Elam still gets us.)

It was a fairly-close race for second place, but “Longmire” ultimately won out with 21% compared to 15% for “Hannibal.” The final two nominees in “Outlander” and “Silicon Valley” were both pretty far behind.

So massive congratulations to all “Hell on Wheels” fans! There is a fifth season premiering on AMC next fall, and to help prepare your for that, go check out our exclusive interview with showrunner John Wirth if you haven’t seen it already.
