Is ‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 9 new tonight? Also, spin-off news!

The Walking Dead -We’ll start with the weekly “is ‘The Walking Dead‘ new tonight?” update in this article, and the answer to that is simple: There isn’t a new installment of the series coming up on AMC tonight. Sad news indeed! The show will return on Sunday, February 9 with new episodes, and the final eight episodes of season 5 are going to air weekly until we get to the end. (It’s the same pattern we have had since the third season.)

We don’t just want to stop this article here, though; instead, we want to share some further information right now on the upcoming “Walking Dead” spin-off show, which we have heard already is carrying with it the working title of “Cobalt” at the moment. Production for the pilot episode is going to be starting very soon, and with that in mind, it is time to start speculating a little on this particular subject: When could this show actually premiere?

If we were AMC, one thing that we would consider is making the spin-off air almost as a bridge between one half of “The Walking Dead” and the next.” Have it run for an eight-episode first season, and let it take some of this open space during the December / January months. It can still end before the Super Bowl, and then, “The Walking Dead” proper can return.

It is really hard to see how else this show could be scheduled. If you air it right after the flagship, you are basically canceling out “Talking Dead.” With the franchise name on the series, we don’t really think that it needs to be launched after any other show … though we could see it airing this fall, and maybe launching in a similar way to “Better Call Saul” (premiering on a Sunday, then airing on Mondays).
