‘Arrow’ season 3, episode 9 (winter finale) shocker: Oliver Queen and a ‘death’
Tonight, “Arrow” season 3 aired its winter finale, and while we are going to have a full review for this installment up in the morning (and a podcast later this week), we thought tonight would be a good opportunity to at least address one of the biggest questions coming out of the winter finale “The Climb”: The fate of Oliver Queen.
Is our title character dead? Well, he is definitely not in good shape after he truly met his match in Ra’s al Ghul. It’s pretty hard to live through a stabbing like that.
With that being said, we’ve seen on this show already that people can be very hard to kill; heck, look at how long Ra’s has been alive!
It may be crazy to think that we could go through some episodes without Stephen Amell present for the majority of the scenes, but it is possible. This could allow for a chance to focus more on the Black Canary origin story, to see how some of the other members of Team Arrow reacts, and to also see if Starling City falls apart without him. It’s a weird double-edged sword, which is probably one of the worst times ever to actually say the word “sword” in context. We don’t want to see Amell gone from the show since he is amazing, but at the same time, this could be great for the evolution of the show. It could force everyone to stand more on their own.
Also, it’s a nice bit of proof that sometimes, the heroes don’t always win. If Oliver comes back from this and defeats Ra’s, it will make it all the more satisfying.

This show only works with arrow and while I wouldnt complain to giving the guy an episode or two off killing him would be the death of the show for me.

I think he might be ‘missing’ for an episode or 2. You might see Ray step forward with his ATOM project and I know its a little bit trope, but I could certainly see some League of Assassins brainwashing going on with Oliver perhaps ‘controlled’ to an extent and not himself. I think the thing with Felicity was a little over the top.I dont think the show is yet to the point where it has to create new things to keep Oliver and Felicity from ‘meeting’ up but I dont think there will be a Lazarus Pit connection here.

i’ve thought the same thing, the writers tweeted shortly after this aired that episode 14 will be titled the return but not of oliver or slade, my guess is still tommy, similar to a red hood batman arc, im betting tommy was brought back with the lazarus pit by ra’s al ghul maybe as a way to draw out merly. maybe thats who finds oliver at the bottom of the cliff?
