‘The X Factor’ judge Simon Cowell in talks with Fox about development deal
Is Simon Cowell really going to return to Fox? That seems possible, but it is not necessarily going to be with a new season of “The X Factor.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cowell is in talks with executives with Fox over a development deal that could mark his return to the network following his time on the American version of the talent competition. Ultimately, we think back at some of Cowell’s past with the network when we see this report. We personally believe that they really do want Simon back for a show. Fox’s reality department is awful outside of Gordon Ramsay and a declining “American Idol,” and they are licking their wounds following the “Utopia” debacle.
They most-likely want a new show that utilizes Simon’s presence, and maybe that is a modified version of “The X Factor.” Or, maybe that is a different sort of music-oriented show that brings a new twist to the genre. Maybe show the process for the contestants behind the scenes, how they choose their songs, or give them longer performances with smaller amounts of feedback from judges.
Or, think about this: Could Simon actually return to “American Idol” someday? We are merely speculating, but despite Cowell’s relationship with show creator Simon Fuller being tepid, there could be benefits for both parties. It would bring the show back to a tough of what made it a hit in the first place, and Simon could focus solely on being a judge again. We’d be all for it. The biggest problem we have with “X Factor” Simon is that he knows that he is King of the Castle, and the chemistry of his panels continually is thrown off by how he feels like he is in charge of everything.
We’ll have to see what the future holds for Simon, but it is very much worth watching out for.
