‘The Flash’ spoilers: Mark Hamill cast in familiar role from 1990s series
“The Flash” is certainly down with nostalgia.
While this show may not be set in the same universe as the series that aired on CBS during the 1990s, they have shown a few times that the writers and producers are rather fond of it. John Wesley Shipp, who played the title character on that show, recurs here is Barry Allen’s imprisoned father. Now, a notable villain from that show is also coming back, and will be played by the same actor to boot.
According to Alan Sepinwall of HitFix, Mark Hamill apparently has enough time away from the new “Star Wars” franchise to come back on “The Flash” as James Jesse, a man otherwise known as the Trickster. He will be behind bars already at Iron Heights when he turns up on the show, but a new generation of the character will be out making life terrible for the residents of Central City.
In a statement confirming the news, show executive producer Andrew Kreisberg had the following to say:
“Having Mark reprise his role as The Trickster was on our original wish list when we were planning our version of The Flash … Christmas and Chanukah came early for us this year when he said yes!”
Hamill is clearly no stranger to heroes and villains. While he may be best known as Luke Skywalker, he also has a devoted following for his voiceover take on the Joker in both “Batman: The Animated Series” and many of the recent video games featuring the character.
Hamill will surface on “The Flash” at some point in 2015, but for now, be sure to share your thoughts on this casting below! You can also click here to watch a preview for Tuesday night’s winter finale, or here to get some further news on all we cover via our CarterMatt Newsletter. (Photo: The CW.)
