Ratings: ‘Peter Pan Live!’ flies (sort of), clobbers ‘The Taste’ season 2 premiere

NBC -While “Peter Pan Live!” was not anywhere near the smash hit that we saw with “The Sound of Music” last year, we feel like in the end, NBC probably did enough here still to feel convinced that this is a concept worth sticking with once a year.

The ratings for the live musical this time around were a 2.3 in the 18-49 demographic, which is probably going to give it the #1 spot on the night when the final ratings are confirmed a little later in the day. While at present “Two and a Half Men” has a higher rating in a 2.5, this is going to drop pretty dramatically, as CBS was preempted in both Dallas and Chicago, two of the biggest markets in TV, for an NFL game between the Cowboys and the Bears.

Most of the bad news is elsewhere. “The Taste” season 2 premiered extremely soft with a 0.9 rating, and we are still not entirely sure what ABC was thinking premiering the show in early December in the first place, other than just trying to fill a hole in the schedule. This is not a show we see returning with that number, even if it is just filler.

Also, “The Vampire Diaries” (0.7) continues to post some of its lowest ratings to date, while “Reign” (0.5) actually slightly improved with a very controversial episode

For those who have not heard, NBC has already committed to another musical never year in “The Music Man.” We feel like so long as they cast a well-known name in the lead role, it may do just as well if not better. While “Peter Pan” is a well-known property, we’re not sure that the musical itself is all that popular.
