NBC’s ‘The Voice’ review: Matt McAndrew, Luke Wade, Chris Jamison, and Nick Jonas perform!

The Voice -

Can we vote for Nick Jonas to win “The Voice“? We’ve got to give this guy a ton of credit: Years ago, he was a part of that teen-idol Jonas Brothers group that was so easy to dislike just because teenagers wouldn’t be quiet about them, just in the same way that people hated the Backstreet Boys or Justin Bieber at their peak.

With all of this being said, Nick has become a beast of a singer! That “Jealous” performance may be our favorite guest performance on the show ever … oh, and there were eight contestants who performed tonight, who all did their best to completely rock out on the show.

Ryan Sill (Team Gwen), “Open Arms” – Ryan did about everything that he could with the Journey song to suit his voice. He hit all of the notes, but he doesn’t have the power for this yet. In between this song, his target demo, and going first, he’ll be in the bottom again.

Craig Wayne Boyd (Team Blake), “Take It Easy” – Probably about the best you can do this song on a singing competition show. The biggest problem with doing “Take It Easy” is just that it will be construed as an easy, forgettable track. It’s hard to make it pop in this setting.

DaNica Shirey (Team Pharrell), “These Dreams” – We wish that she did a version of the song a little more similar to Heart, since she’s done so many ballads. Even with that, this was all sorts of excellent, and a smart choice by Pharrell.

Damien (Team Adam), “Someone Like You” – What is Adam Levine doing? One ballad after another for Damien. He can sing, and he did perform this very well. We just wonder if he’s starting to get a little forgettable.

Chris Jamison (Team Adam), “Sexual Healing” – For around five seconds, we saw Chris walking towards Gwen, which promptly caused us to scream “don’t do it!” as she had an extremely awkward look on her face. Still not sure it’s the right song for this show, but the guy’s got SWAGGER.

Luke Wade (Team Pharrell), “Holding Back the Tears” – We’re not that familiar with the song, so we can’t judge this on a whole lot else. It was a very nice vocal, though; we classify Luke and Taylor in the same group. They are darkhorses, and could be able to make noise later in the competition.

Taylor John Williams (Team Gwen), “Royals” – Taylor’s best performance of the season by a large divide. This was haunting, and there was a very dark tinge to almost every note of the song. It was so different from the original, and from everything else, that it’s going to stand out for a while.

Matt McAndrew (Team Adam), “The Blower’s Daughter” – A risky song choice, since it’s not a familiar song. It was yet another excellent, moving performance from him, and we’re starting to think that there are so many possible winners to this show.
