‘The Walking Dead’ season 5 midseason finale biggest one yet; fails to break overall record

The Walking Dead -The ratings are officially in now for the “Walking Dead” season 5 midseason finale, and it is enough to yet again make AMC bow to the feet of Robert Kirkman and his zombie horde.

For the installment entitled “Coda,” a grand total of 14.8 million viewers watched, with almost 10 million of them coming within the key 18-49 demographic that is so appealing to advertisers. This is the most-watched and highest-rated midseason finale to date, though it is down from the 17 million-plus who watched the season premiere.

Overall, though, is the show on the decline? We are starting to wonder if it could be, and mostly because of the fact that this half-season was not the show’s best. In retrospect, we feel like we overrated the episode last night somewhat, and the same goes for most of the season so far. There may have been some good moments, but what progress did we really make in these past five episodes especially? We lost Beth, the characters returned to Atlanta, and Eugene is a liar. We don’t really have a specific direction for the show moving forward, and we don’t even necessarily buy that Beth had to die. It’s a little different than how we lost Bob, or how the show killed off Lizzie and Mika last season.

We’ll get another chance to see if the show can break any more records come February 9, where it will not be up against NFL football.
