‘State of Affairs’ episode 3 preview: The latest Katherine Heigl scene

State of Affairs -The first few episodes of “State of Affairs” this season have definitely been all sorts of intense, but there is still one other question that we expect: Are we going to see things stay that way?

We would say that the answer to this for the time being is yes, at least based on the new sneak peek below. Basically, you have Charlie (Katherine Heigl) learning a thing or two about photos that could pose a significant problem. This is a strong, serious scene, but it continues along what the show seems to want to do. We envision it somewhat right now as a cross between “The Blacklist” and “Madam Secretary” right now. There are some “Homeland” comparisons that are understandable, but we don’t see Charlie as anywhere near as unhinged as the woman Claire Danes plays over on Showtime.

Do we think that the ratings are going to tick up for this episode? While we don’t necessarily project a big boost, we do think that the ratings are going to level off a little bit week-to-week here. Last week’s numbers were more than likely impacted by not just football and programming elsewhere, but also delays due to what was going on in Ferguson.

The biggest test for this series will eventually come if NBC decides to not put it after “The Voice,” which is their biggest lead-in warrior right now. This is what initially enabled “The Blacklist” to become a big hit, but early this year the network aired a few episodes without “The Voice” around to test how strong it was.
