‘NCIS’ season 12 spoilers: Show boss on Bishop, Gibbs, and future dynamic
“NCIS” season 12 has taken its fair share of peaks and valleys so far this season, and in the process we’ve come to learn a few things about some of the characters. For example, we’ve figured out that Gibbs may hold a part of himself responsible for no longer having Kate or Ziva around with the team, even if neither of the departures is really his fault at all. That has led to him having a different attitude with Bishop, and that may be somethng that is changing in the near future.
Now that Mark Harmon and Emily Wickersham’s characters have had a bit of a heart-to-heart regarding how he is going to treat her from now on, is the “tough Gibbs” act going to remain? It sounds like it, at least based on what show boss Gary Glasberg said recently in a chat with TV Guide:
“There’s a [candor] and honesty between Bishop and Gibbs … Gibbs isn’t going to be afraid to tell her what he’s thinking or handle her the way that Gibbs handles everybody.”
Meanwhile, Wickersham notes that you can probably expect to see more and more of her character’s flaws start to shine through as this story progresses:
“She usually is right all the time. But as this season goes on, you slowly see more and more faults, which to me makes her more and more human.”

I would hope that Bishop realizes that she isn’t cut out to be a field agent and wants to do something else altogether while also rebuilding communication with her husband. I hope the old Gibbs returns to the office (three members are fine) and that the team produces increased Tim and Tony performances. Abby has had a few good spots but she seemed to have been put on the backburner or toned down or something not our Abby. Miss her interaction as she had to give up some of her “skills” to make room for Bishop. Not quite sure why that is but not enough Abby Tim and Tony bonding lately for me. Question for TPTB – What are Bishops skills other than her NSA connections and analyzing which is already covered in this team by Ducky? Ziva had connections all over the world, she could speak several languages, she could draw, she could fight, she could protect her co-workers and victims, she could shoot, she was funny, she was smart, she fit into the team. Have yet to hear what exactly is special enough about Btshop to warrant her being on this team. Beating a dead horse anyway as CBS is comfortable losing viewers both on this show and NCIS LA which lost half it’s audience by the move to Mondays. Just plain sad. Turning the channel.

The only dynamic I want to see between them is Gibbs sending her back to NSA, as he should have done months ago. She still contributes nothing to the team and has no interest for me as a character. The more we “learn” about her, the more we can see how boring she is. She will go down in NCIS history as a failure of a character. I liked her husband a lot. He fit into the team better than she did.

I have really enjoyed the last few episodes of NCIS. Showing Bishop’s flaws is great. I loved the conflict between her and Gibbs. He is finally showing some emotion regarding Kate and Ziva. Everyone felt the loss of Kate because she was killed on the job, the risk they all know that they face but Ziva was different in that the job became too much…the guilt she has felt over the life she has led etc. etc. Her leaving suddenly left a huge hole as we all know. I think Gibbs is worried about losing another agent because of Bishop’s inexperience. Bishop has expressed her desire to get as good as the guys but what remains is to find out how tough she is. He cares about his team and wants to do right by them. He also believes in standing up for the military as shown in “Semper Fi”. Others may not agree, but I feel that NCIS is getting back on track and we will be in store for some really cool surprises come the rest of the season. Meeting Bishop’s husband is really neat. I hope that Jamie Bamber becomes a regular guest star. I’m still itching waiting for the re-emergence of the Russian baddie and his connection to Ari Aswari and how that will play out at some point.
