‘Two and a Half Men’ season 12, episode 5 preview: The title has its original meaning back

The funny thing is that we have not spent a whole lot of time lately thinking about the title for “Two and a Half Men.” Then again, we have not spent a whole lot of time thinking about “Two and a Half Men” in general. This is a show whose currency is fart jokes, and with all of those going, you don’t pay attention to so many other matters.

With this show being in its final season, though, it definitely felt appropriate that it went full-circle as it reintroduced us to something that was a huge part of the first ten seasons of the show: A kid. Instead of Jake (who may never be back on the show again), we now have Louis. He seems to have a sense of humor already, but it’s far too early to tell if the chemistry is really going to be here on the same level.

Bringing in a new kid at this point in the show is something that can be seen as an enormous risk, and mostly due to the fact that if the kid’s not great, viewers will tune out. They may tune out anyway, and view Louis as the show’s version of Cousin Oliver. We do understand the idea of returning the series to its roots, but sometimes, you really should not try to go home again.

This episode is actually airing on Thanksgiving night, which is a pretty ballsy move for a network like CBS to introduce a big element to their story. We’ll have to see how it goes when it ends up airing.
