‘The Walking Dead’ season 5, episode 7: Seth Gilliam on Father Gabriel’s escape
Has the Father Gabriel character on “The Walking Dead” really been done properly? We definitely understand this being a polarizing subject, mostly because he has been a pretty polarizing character. Despite being around for a few episodes so far, the man has not exactly done another that makes sense. He doesn’t want to kill things, hides out in the church, and on this past episode of the show, rips out the floorboards before taking off … though not before getting a nail in the foot. There seems to be a certain curiosity with him and what is going on at Terminus, and maybe that will be explored in the finale.
For the time being, actor Seth Gilliam is being coy. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the actor explained a little bit of what he believes to be Gabriel’s thought process:
“I have not actually seen the episode yet so I am not sure what is in and what is not, but he did have some lines where he was going out really to see if what was happening at the school really went down. Have people really reverted to cannibalism? Are they trapping other human beings and eating them? So I think it’s more of an exploratory mission than an escape. And also, for someone who is not going to fight, the other alternative is fleeing, so having a little escape route, whether he is intending to leave for good or not, is just somewhat comforting for him.”
If there is one thing that we are hoping for above all else when it comes to the final episode of the season, it is some sort of resolution as to what this guy is up to. Oh, and we also want to see Morgan again.

I’ve stayed away from the comics, so I have no idea what this guy is up to. I keep feeling like we shouldn’t trust him, but he continues to prove to be extremely naive to the world he lives in.
