‘Mad Men’ season 7: Matthew Weiner on series finale, Jon Hamm, and more

There may be a little bit more time before the series finale of “Mad Men” airs on AMC, but if you are to listen to show creator Matthew Weiner, there is one thing that you should probably know about this right now: Star Jon Hamm has known at least for a while about what was in store for the series.

As a part of a new interview event with The Hollywood Reporter, Weiner kept it simple when asked on the subject of how much the man behind Don Draper is aware of everything:

“Jon Hamm has been included in everything; he just needs to know that he’s … my partner in that. I don’t know if he’s said he doesn’t know, but he knows. He knew very early on exactly how it was gonna work and what I was planning and trying to execute.”

The challenge for the final seven episodes of this series is going to be making sure that it lives up to all of the expectations fans have and then some. With that being said, the good news for Weiner at least is that he does not quite seem like the sort of guy who is going to be overly concerned with what fans or the media thinks about how this story ends. He will try to mostly fulfill his own personal vision, and then just leave it at that.

With that being said, we do imagine that there will be plenty of discussions and scrutiny on him, and so he better be prepared for that. This is the culture that we live in now when it comes to series finales.
