‘Saturday Night Live’ music: Kendrick Lamar performs new single ‘i’

Kendrick Lamar was the much-hyped musical guest for this new episode of “Saturday Night Live,” and while we are not that familiar with his music, we gotta come out and say that he may have proved himself to be one of the most talented guys in hip-hop with this performance.

We will start off here with what we do know and appreciate about good performances, and that is when someone comes out with a whole ton of energy, and finds a way to completely make the crowd buy into almost every little thing that they do on the stage. Kendrick did that with just about each choice that he made, and with his cadence and the way he was carrying himself. We don’t know if he was wearing some sort of contacts or it was the lighting, but the way in particular that the stage was lit was something that gave this performance a great sense of eeriness.

The song that he performed is Lamar’s latest single “i,” which was released just a matter of earlier this year.

What was interesting about this particular performance, like last week with Prince, is that it aired a little later in the show than the musical guest tends to perform.

Luckily, and unlike Prince, Lamar did come out to perform a second song that brought some more of the same energy to the table, even though we would not classify it as a performance equally as strong.

Next week, Bruno Mars is going to return as a musical guest! The difference between this and last time, though, is that he won’t be alone now.
