Could the fourth season of “House of Lies” be a major comeback for Marty Kaan? At this given point in time, there is really nowhere that the man can go but up.
At the end of season 3, Don Cheadle’s character was facing the harsh reality of prison time, and also that Jeannie (Kristen Bell) was the real responsible party … which probably leads to a not-so-happy reunion for the two this time. The fact that they were just starting to get romantic only complicates the equation.
The latest promo for the January 11 premiere, first posted by Just Jared, gives us a little bit of insight into where Marty’s story picks back up. It looks as though he has found his back back out of prison, but not back into good graces. His company has to in some ways start again, given that the arrest ruined his reputation. Also, he does not seem to be altogether keen on working with Jeannie, given that he basically tells are at one point that she’s fired. Will that stick? We’ll just have to wait and see.
If nothing else, the thing we feel like the show should feel really good about right now comes in the way of momentum. We wanted to like some of the first two seasons more than we actually did, but season 3 really propelled the show in a better direction, and it also did a much better job of making us legitimately laugh. It sounds silly to ask for that sort of thing for a comedy, but sometimes “House of Lies” tended to focus too much on being clever.
We figure that this will hardly be the last time we discuss this series over the course of the coming weeks, so be sure to keep coming back for further updates!
