‘Faking It’ season 2, episode 8 review: Amy versus beauty pageants; Karma, Liam face the truth

“Faking It” likes to destroy plans and expectations, and Tuesday night’s new episode definitely had quite a bit of that and then some.

The first major example of that came when Amy initially entered a beauty pageant so that she and Reagan could create some sort of hipster coup, and use the outlet to trash the entire institution. However, she ended up touching her mother so much by participating that she no longer cared about making the big political statement. It’s a story about a beauty pageant that we can actually get behind! The irony here was that it was ultimately Lauren who flipped out rather than Amy, and it was after seeing her suddenly take it seriously.

This move caused plenty of trouble between Amy and Reagan, who slightly misinterpreted her motivations here. These two will work this out … at least for now. If they do break up, we imagine that it will be something else that causes the problem.

For Karma, the story was certainly slightly different, since she decided that she was going to finally tell the truth about her relationship with Liam. It took her forever to admit to it, but she finally did. Thankfully, her parents took it well!

While the Shane story was only a small piece of the puzzle, we did laugh a few times at him trying to stop his new boyfriend from advertising for a fast-food chicken company that sounded VERY familiar.

This episode was entertaining, but in the end, the ending is what you may be talking about the most. Liam’s confession happened, and there are some TERRIBLE things ahead. Grade: B+.
