Ratings: Did ‘CSI’ season 15 suffer from multiple delays?

If we worked on “CSI,” we’d probably not be feeling altogether great about the treatment that CBS has given to them over the past few weeks. For two weeks, delays due to the NFL caused the show to be completely preempted in most parts of the country, and even when the episode finally aired last night, it did not begin until 10:17 p.m. Eastern time.

So what did all of this result in? Think along the lines of a 1.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, which is a new series low for the long-running show. We’re starting to get a very specific impression of what CBS may be trying to do with this Sunday-night timeslot: Slowly kill off shows that have been around for an incredibly long time. Somehow, “The Mentalist” survived well enough to get a final season, but “CSI: Miami” was a previous casualty here.

Is there some good news coming for “CSI” fans? Sure, at least in the form that there will be a new episode on the schedule for next week … supposedly. At this point, we’re constantly in a state of nervousness about whether or not any of these episodes are going to still air. The NFL will always come first to CBS, and the reasoning for it is simple on their part: Money.

To be fair, “CSI” is not the only long-running show that is at this point in a little bit of danger. “Mulaney” (0.9) will probably just air its remaining episodes and be canceled, while “Resurrection” (1.2) is by and large in the same boat. “Revenge” (1.3) is not in much better shape, but it at least has devoted fans.

Stay tuned, since we’re going to have some further updates all about the show as they come out.
