‘The X Factor’ UK notes: Stevi Ritchie’s ‘experience’; Lola Saunders controversy
It wouldn’t be a week in “X Factor” without the British press finding a way to come up with some new stories, or with there being complains over something that happened on the show.
We start here with the Star, which decided this week to make a big deal out of the fact that Stevi Ritchie has a history performing on stage, auditioned for Pop Idol years ago, and even apparently auditioned for “American Idol” a few years back, but could not make it far because he was not a US citizen. Also, they just found the old video of him performing “Music of the Night” that we shared earlier this week. We don’t have any problem with Stevi having past experience. What else did folks who watch the show really expect? It wasn’t like he suddenly woke up one morning and decided that he was going to suddenly start singing for the heck of it.
Lols Saunders complaints – Also, we learned today that there were some complains filed over her performance of “Crazy,” which included straightjackets and a story that many in the mental health profession claimed was demeaning to this who already suffer from this stigma.
Ultimately, this is one of those cases where we really see both sides. We have a very hard time believing that either Lola or her mentor Cheryl intentionally wanted to hurt anyone’s feelings, though there was something unfortunate that still happened in the process. Sadly, Lola is not even on the show anymore; Lauren Platt is the last remaining member of the girls.
