‘Downton Abbey’ season 5 finale spoilers: Are Joanne Froggatt’s Anna, Brendan Coyle’s Bates in trouble?
For those who love Anna and Bates on “Downton Abbey” (and there are many of them), we would say that there is a pretty significant reason to worry going into the finale episode airing on Sunday night. After all, we have already witness Bates and Anna starting to worry greatly about their future freedom, and this is really going to be put to the test based on the new photo for this episode that we have for you here. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Americans.)
Basically, this image shows Brendan Coyle and Joanne Froggatt’s characters in a place where neither of them would like to be, and that is behind bars. Why? It may have something to do both with Mr. Green’s murder and an attempt at a cover-up of it, even though the two are not guilty of either crime. The problem for the two of them is that they cannot prove their innocence, due to a valuable piece of evidence going lost.
What the finale will hopefully reveal to us is who is the real responsible party here, though there are not many other suspects who knew about what Green did to Anna during the opera performance. Mary and Mrs. Hughes were both completely aware of the situation, and Lord Gillingham at least knew enough to make a big move, and he may have felt ashamed that someone under his employ would be guilty of doing something terrible.
We suppose it is also possible that this was a mere accident, though that is unlikely given all of the buildup.
