‘Saturday Night Live’: Cameron Diaz hosting; Bruno Mars, Mark Ronson performing on November 22
In closing out the “Saturday Night Live” new episodes before Thanksgiving, it seems like the NBC show is yet again holding to what seems to be a tradition this year: Finding people with previous experience on the show. Save for maybe Chris Pratt, ever single selection this year so far has been someone with at least sketch experience at some point; even Pratt had a co-star in Amy Poehler on “Parks and Recreation” who was a cast member, and a wife in Anna Faris who was a former host.
Well, the show is continuing this tradition with Cameron Diaz coming on board November 22. This is her fourth time hosting the series, and it does mark her first in almost a decade. Luckily, we do still feel like she is not a bad choice. She is probably funnier than many of the movie roles she plays, and she does still have many fans.
What is equally interesting here is that Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson will be coming on together as musical guests, and we are almost surprised that they just didn’t give the keys to Mars again for the full show. Not only was he a great host / musical guest last time, but his “Sad Mouse” sketch is probably one of our favorite sketches of the past decade. We still think about that when it comes to creative pieces that truly show off the show’s many strengths.
Let’s just hope that for this show, the team behind the scenes gets it together more than they did for the Chris Rock show. Save for a few little good moments, it went downhill almost from the moment that the comedian ended his monologue.
