‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Chris Rock, Prince deliver season-high numbers
Even though we’re not exactly sure that “Saturday Night Live” made a great impression last night with their show hosted by Chris Rock, they did at least do a good job pumping up their viewer count for the second straight week.
Following an improved performance from the show with Jim Carrey as host last week, Saturday night’s episode drew a 2.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic. That is the best performance for the show since March, which is when Jim Parsons of “The Big Bang Theory” took over the duties as host. In household ratings, the 4.9 rating is the best for the NBC show since February, when Melissa McCarthy was the host yet again. We attribute this one mostly to Prince, who has an active fan base, but one that is also older and likely mostly out of the key demographic.
We hope that “SNL” enjoyed these ratings, since we’re pretty positive that you are not going to get them for the show in two weeks hosted by Woody Harrelson. No offense to the “True Detective” star, but he is not a huge draw with younger viewers. Musical guest Kendrick Lamar may have a better chance, but not all of the “SNL” audience is within the hip-hop community.
Let’s just hope that this upcoming show is better as a whole, since there was nary a home run in last night’s show and some moments, including the Chris Rock – Leslie Jones married couple sketch, were among the worst things that we have ever seen on the series to date.
