‘Downton Abbey’ season 5, episode 7 preview: Joanne Froggatt, Brendan Coyle play Anna – Bates drama
Tonight, the penultimate episode of “Downton Abbey” season 8 is here, and this is going to be a huge chance to find some answers to key stories. (Warning: Spoilers ahead for Americans!)
One of those big stories for now is the tale of Anna and Bates. At the moment, there is some great news for the couple, at least in that the two are now on the same page in regards to one simple question: Whether or not Bates is responsible for the death of Mr. Green. As we learned during the last episode, he did actually travel with the intention of doing the dastardly deed, but he opted in the end not to do it, and to instead leave this up to fate. It is still very coincidental that Green happened to die that same day, but at least nobody can place Bates at the scene of the crime completely.
The problem he runs into tonight is coming up with the proof; the only evidence that he had was a ticket that was not ripped by an agent, meaning that he never got on the train to take him to where Green was killed. Unfortunately, that has been lost over time.
We’d be shocked if tonight’s episode did not surge this story forward in some way, but we’d be equally shocked if Bates somehow ends up behind bars by the end of this episode. After all, remember here that this is a man who has already gone through this once, and nobody likes to repeat storylines too many times.
