‘Doctor Who’ season 8, episode 11 preview: Who is Missy?
This weekend marks another new episode of “Doctor Who,” and you have to believe that this is one that will in particular turn a few heads.
After all, at the center of “Dark Water,” even more than the return of the Cybermen, is a mysterious woman known as Missy, who proclaims to be someone that the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is more than familiar with already. He doubts this, but she insists that he already has the answer.
There already are a variety of fan theories and speculation out there about the part, and by and large, the theories and points behind many of them are valid. We understand the notion of her being the Master, given that there is a little bit of evidence concerning her power. However, Rani is another name that has been floating around the internet for a time.
Personally, though, our favorite theories are that she is either some other character tied to the Impossible Girl Clara (maybe somehow a part of her consciousness), a combined consciousness of many past companions who have witnessed some of his destruction, or someone who may have a connection to a future Doctor who we have no quite met yet in full. After all, this would not be the first time that the show chose to mess around with its timeline, and give us a character who is important down the road versus being extremely important to everything that is going on right now.
We’ll be back tomorrow with a full review of the episode … and hopefully some more answers to go along with it. Aren’t those things always nice to have?
