‘Saturday Night Live’ preview: Chris Rock, Bobby Moynihan, and many Prince references
We have to start by saying this: Our expectations for this weekend’s new edition of “Saturday Night Live” are completely through the roof. Why? It’s tied mostly to our belief that the show’s host in Chris Rock is one of the funniest people alive, and really cannot do very much wrong.
With this in mind, we’re probably going to be even more thrilled if certain things work on the show, and possibly even sadder in the event that they don’t. The biggest thing that we take away from the promo below is that it is … different. It doesn’t really feel anything like some of the other promos that “SNL” has done over the years, and there are many good reasons for that. For one, it is filmed outside, and seemingly where a number of other people could watch Rock and Bobby Moynihan do it.
Also, it feels like there was very little time spent writing anything, and they felt like a better choice would just be to go outside and riff a little bit. There is some natural humor here, and certainly nothing that is forced. That’s the thing about Rock as a comic; he makes you a part of his world while you’re laughing.
Oh, and the musical guest for this weekend is Prince, who is just as big of a get for the show as Rock is. Most of the promo is spent referencing the “Purple Rain” singer’s presence on the show in some shape or form … though we really cannot blame anyone for that at all, given how incredibly talented the guy is.
