‘The Flash’ episode 4 spoilers: Wentworth Miller on playing Captain Cold, TV return
Tuesday night’s “The Flash” has been hyped up for the most part for being the debut of Felicity Smoak on this show for a one-episode arc, but there is something else that is very integral to the plotline ahead: Captain Cold. He is probably the most notable comic-book villain that Barry Allen has squared off against so far, and the CW series managed to get a notable actor for the role, as well: “Prison Break” alum Wentworth Miller. With him on this show and with Robert Knepper coming, the “Arrow” / “Flash” crossover world have quite an affection for the Fox hit.
So why did Miller take this role? It’s been years since he has done anything substantial on TV, and he told The Hollywood Reporter, he explained that so much of his motivation just came from wanting to be a part of this environment again:
“I’d been writing for a few years and it was a lonely experience. Initially I enjoyed sitting at my desk and setting my own hours. Being my own boss. But I started missing the community and the connection you find on set. Especially a TV set. The cast and crew of The Flash bust hump every week putting together something great. And that creates this really tight, close-knit dynamic. A certain electricity. And I was looking for some of that in my life again.”
Feasibly, we could imagine Captain Cold making at least a few more appearances, but we don’t see him as the Big Bad more so than Eddie Thawne or maybe even Harrison Wells, who at least has some evil tendencies. We just don’t know every trick in his hat just yet.
