‘The Walking Dead’ season 5: Robert Kirkman addressed big Andrew Lincoln – Rick theory

Rick -This is what the internet is coming to, right? Apparently, we have to start to address some of the big rumors that are out there anytime that they come up.

Earlier this week, a rumor about “The Walking Dead” first started to come to light via Uproxx, which is the same site that really worked to heavily promote the whole “Megan Draper is Sharon Tate” theory with another AMC series in “Mad Men.” Their theory? That Rick is in a coma, and actually imagining the events with the zombie apocalypse on the show. As always, they tried to read into some events as evidence of their theory.

Well, comic writer / executive producer Robert Kirkman clearly wants to nip this one in the bud, posting a message on Twitter telling everyone not to buy into such speculation.

We appreciate Kirkman, and understand why he’d want to distance himself from any theory that sounds like the end of “Newhart.” At the same time, this is a slippery slope. We much prefer to leave the speculation open-ended, rather than have the creator / showrunner / executive producer / anyone in a top position telling you what is true and what isn’t. That’s why we believed that David Chase never should have said at all whether or not Tony Soprano was alive or dead at the end of “The Sopranos.”

To Kirkman’s credit, he did eventually choose to have a little bit more fun with some of the rumors.

What’s your take on this theory, and the fact that Kirkman actually chose to address it? Share your thoughts with a comment, and head over here to see a preview for Sunday night’s new episode.
