‘Saturday Night Live’ ratings: Jim Carrey, Iggy Azalea show posts season highs
The numbers are in for the “Saturday Night Live” episode hosted by Jim Carrey, and for the most part, we would say that this is pretty great news for NBC after a few episodes of lower numbers.
With a 2.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic, this is the highest-rated show of the season, and also the best show as a whole since April. Given that there was no notable lead-in, either, it seems that the presence of host Carrey and musical guest Iggy Azalea were enough to get some people watching who had not been. This is an encouraging sign, given that we don’t want to see disappointing ratings for a 40th anniversary season.
Also, there is a very good chance that the numbers could go up once again for the show next week, given that we have an “SNL” legend (and arguably one of the funniest people alive) in Chris Rock hosting the show. We can see many old-school fans of the show sticking around to see this one, and we are beyond excited to see what ideas Rock ends up bringing to the table.
Beyond Chris as host, though, there are still many mysteries ahead for the rest of the season. There has also yet to be a risky host selected just yet, which may be helping the show settle in with so much turnover the past two seasons. We almost expect a movie star or someone else (an athlete?) coming out soon. Given that he has “Interstellar” coming out, we almost would not be shocked if Matthew McConaughey came back to host. It would be ironic, given that Carrey roasted his Lincoln commercials on the show last night.
